The art is based off of the original artist, Bruno Premiani. All the lettering, logos, and other text elements were done the old fashioned way, by hand! No paste-ups here. This 11x17 commission was inked on bristol board and completed on 11/12/09.

JLA vs. AVENGERS!

It's an all-out battle of the ages as the JLA clashes with the Avengers! THE INVADERS! Sketch Cards

Now that we're doing sketch cards, we knew it wouldn't take long until we started getting commissioned to draw some. Each card is 2.5x3.5 in size, colored with Blick Artist Markers, and completed on 9/29/09.

LANTERNS!

With Blackest Night and everything happening in the Green Lantern comics right now, people are loving the Lanterns! Here we have four individual 8.5x11 Lantern pages, supplied by our fan, featuring two Green Lanterns (Salaak and Katma Tui), a Blue Lantern (Ganthet), and a Yellow Lantern (Mongul). These were a blast to do and really make a great presentation with the colored boarders! These four commissions were inked with a brush and finished on 9/28/09.

BLACK CANARY- Up Close and Personal!

In this illustration, we were asked to draw a portrait of Black Canary. We've found that drawing head shots this large can be pretty difficult, so what we did was draw her portrait small, enlarge it, and then trace it on bristol board with a light box. That way, we got all of her proportions to look correct. This 9x12 commission was completed on 10/14/09.

STARFIRE!

Flying out of the Teen Titans is the always beautiful Starfire! We enjoyed drawing this character and hope to draw more of her in the future. This 9x12 commission was inked with a brush on bristol board, and was completed on 9/26/09.

EMMA FROST!

It's former villain, current member of the X-Men, and all around hottie Emma Frost! This 9x12 commission was inked with a brush on bristol board, and was completed on 9/24/09.

PHOENIX!

Here we have Jean Grey in her persona as Phoenix! Brian did some experimenting with dry brushing to get a unique look for the background. This 9x12 commission was inked with a brush on bristol board, and was completed on 9/25/09.

NIGHTWING and STARFIRE!

In this commission, our fan requested to see Nightwing and Starfire, not in an all out action scene, but rather in a quiet, romantic moment. This 11x17 illustration was inked with a brush on bristol board, and completed on 9/15/09.

COLOR SKETCH CARDS - 3rd GROUP!

Here is our third group of 24 color sketch cards! This group is heavy on the Marvel characters, particularly that merry band of mutants! THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS!

Remember Quality Comics before it was bought by DC Comics? The fan who requested this homage to a Quality Comics house ad sure does. This was another commission that features characters we never get a chance to draw, which we always enjoy! The logo and all the text elements were done by hand, the old fashioned way! This 11x17 commission was competed on 920/09.

COLOR SKETCH CARDS - 2nd GROUP!

Here is the next batch of sketch cards we've created. We decided to add some different characters this time, like four of our favorite Jack Kirby's Fourth World characters. SPIDER-MAN vs. DR. DOOM!

Are you kidding? We get to draw Dr. Doom! In a titanic battle onboard Doom's airship, can Spider-man defeat the fiercest foe of the Fantastic Four? You decide! This 11x17 commission was inked with a brush and completed on 8/15/09.

The Black Canary in deadly danger! We were asked to draw another scene of this Justice Leaguer in peril, and we don't know how she's going to get out of this one! This is a 9x12 commission, inked with a brush on bristol board, was completed on 7/21/09.

STEVE DITKO UNIVERSE!

The Steve Ditko Universe Cover "Recreation." Though it's actually inspired by the covers of the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe and not a direct recreation. The client who commissioned this is collecting covers of this theme featuring all the comic greats, and we were chosen for the Ditko one. This 11x17 commission was competed on 7/14/09 and inked with a brush on bristol board.

THE INVADERS vs. MR. ATOM!

The Invaders vs. Mr. Atom? You got it! Direct from the battlefields of World War II comes the robotic foe of Captain Marvel in combat with the greatest super team of the war. This was one inter-company crossover we had way too much fun drawing! This is a 11x17 commission inked with a brush on bristol board. It was completed on 7/10/09.

COLOR SKETCH CARDS - 1st GROUP!

We thought we'd give our new markers a try. These 3.5 inch by 2.5 inch cards are on bristol board and colored with Dick Blick Artists Markers (water and fade resistant). The cards were for sale individually on eBay and all have sold. Look for more for sale soon!

Serenity!

The cult favorite TV show Firefly, and movie Serenity, comes alive - Fraim style. We must admit we never watched the show, but we have numerous friends who think we should check it out on DVD. One of these days... This is a 11x17 commission inked with a brush on bristol board. It was completed on 6/29/09.

GHOSTBUSTERS!

Who are ya gonna call? You know who - The Ghostbusters! This was a lot of fun to draw, and totally made us want to see the movies again! This is a 11x17 commission, inked with a brush on bristol board, and was completed on 7/7/09.

EARTH 2 HUNTRESS!

With this 11x17 commission, we were asked to draw the Earth 2 Huntress. This was done for a collector who only buys Huntress art so it's great for us to now be a part of his collection. This illustration was inked with a brush on bristol board and was completed on 6/22/09.

TIGRA!

In this 9x12 commission, we were asked to draw the always sexy Avenger, Tigra. The difference here being, as you no doubt have noticed, is that our client wanted Tigra to have an extra set of arms and an extra set of breasts. This is certainly different, but fun to do nonetheless. This illustration was inked with a brush and completed on 6/17/09.

GOLDEN AGE FLASH!

Coming at you, it's the Golden Age Flash! We were asked to draw the original Flash in his prime racing right at the viewer. Oh, and don't forget his big eyebrows! This 11x17 commission was inked with a brush and completed on 6/26/09.

THE LIZARD: FACE-TO-FACE!

Here we were requested to do an illustration of The Lizard "Through the Ages." Specifically, our fan wanted us to show how the Lizard has been interpreted so differently by so many artists throughout the years. We've got the Lizard by Ditko, Romita, Buscema, Andru, Frenz, McFarlane, Saviuk, Bagely, Byrne, Rude, and lastly a Lizard in our style. What a great idea which was a blast for us to do. It is pretty amazing how different the characters has looked during his long history. This 11x17 commission was completed on 6/13/09.

DAREDEVIL and THE PUNISHER vs. BULLSEYE and JIGSAW!

In this 11x17 commission, we were asked to draw Daredevil battling Bullseye and the Punisher battling Jigsaw. This was a fun one to do because we rarely get asked to do these characters. Commissions like these are also a challenge for us in terms of the layout and making the character placement work right. This was inked with a brush on bristol board and competed on 6/7/09.

SUPERBOY #147 Cover Recreation!

Here we have another cover recreation. It's SUPERBOY #147 which is another 80 page Giant featuring the Legion of Super Heroes and Supergirl. All the lettering, logos, and other text elements were done the old fashioned way, by hand! No paste-ups here. This 11x17 commission was inked on bristol board and completed on 5/28/09.

GREEN LANTERN MULTIVERSE COVER!

Much like the Question commission we did earlier, here we have Green Lantern taking the spotlight wielding his emerald energy. The fellow who commissioned this piece wanted us to leave areas for other artists to add characters to this Multiverse Comics cover. All the text elements were drawn by hand. This commission is 11x17 and was completed on 5/25/09.

BIG BARDA! For Charity

We were asked to donate a drawing to the Marla-Bea Benefit, an online fund-raiser for breast cancer research. The only stipulations were the drawing had to feature a female character and should include the color pink. Being huge fans of Jack Kirby's Fourth World, we chose to do Big Barda. If you are interested in purchasing this drawing, please contact jasonwgavin@yahoo.com for more information. This is an 11x14 illustration inked with a brush on bristol board. It was colored with archival markers (her bikini is colored a very light pink which did not show up well on the scan). It was completed on 5/24/09.

ACTION COMICS #360 Cover Recreation!

For this commission, we were asked to draw a cover recreation of ACTION COMICS #360. What a great representation of what made those classic Silver Age covers so appealing. All the lettering, logos, and other text elements were done the old fashioned way, by hand! No paste-ups here. This 11x17 commission was inked on bristol board and completed on 5/20/09.

MULTIVERSE vs. MONSTERS!

Here we have a Battle of the Multiverse! We were asked to create a two-page spread featuring 28 characters battling four Marvel/Atlas era monsters; Sporr, Goom, Bruutu, and another unnamed monster that we thought looked weird from the story "I was Trapped in the Chamber of Fear!" There are too many heroes to for us to list here, but can you name them all? This 22x17 spread, which is two 11x17 pages taped together, was completed on 4/19/09.

THE QUESTION!

Here we were asked to draw The Question tossing a bunch of blank cards at the viewer. The fellow who commissioned this will then take this piece to comic book conventions and have other artist draw characters in the blank cards. What a great idea! This is an 11x17 illustration on bristol board and was completed on 4/6/09.

A COLLECTION OF HEROES!

After one of our fans saw the Indiana Jones commission we did, he asked if we'd be interested in doing an illustration of his favorite characters, one of which is being Indy himself. Any chance to draw Dr. Jones and you know we'll take it! Here we have Indy, Captain Jack Sparrow, Zorro (a personal favorite), The Lone Ranger, The Man With No Name, Dr. Who, Travis Bickle from TAXI DRIVER, Alex Delarge from A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, and The Rocketeer (another personal favorite). This is an 11x17 commission inked on bristol board, and was completed on 3/21/09.

THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA!

This one is a monster! We were commissioned to do the entire Justice Society of America, past and present, on a two-page spread. One of the challenges in doing an illustration with so many characters like this one is trying to get them all to fit! This illustration is 22x17, which is two 11x17 bristol boards taped together, and was completed on 4/12/09.

THE THING and ROBOT ARCHIE vs. GORGILLA!

It's clobbering time! It's the Thing teaming up with British comic book character Robot Archie battling that 1950's Kirby monster Gorgilla! What can we say, we can never turn down a chance to draw those crazy Kirby monsters, which includes the Thing! While drawing this, we always kept in mind how this could have been a cover to MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE. This 11x17 commission was completed on 3/28/09.

A MULTIVERSE!

It's a multiverse of heroes! In this commission, we were asked to create an illustration featuring characters of our choosing from several different comic book universes. Since the Marvel and DC Universes are the most common, we could only choose at most two characters from those universes. Featured here are Magnus: Robot Fighter, Midnighter, Kid Flash from KINGDOM COME, Dynamo, Nite Owl from the WATCHMEN movie, Spider-Girl, The Scarab, Iron Man, and The Blue Beetle. This 11x17 commission was inked with a brush on bristol board and was completed on 3/23/09.
