Mike Harrington: Biography
My artistic influences began early on in my childhood; moving into a new neighborhood, I made fast friends with Joey Johnson, and we spent our days learning how to draw bubble letters and side character profiles of the comic books of the day; Spiderman, Superman, Batman and The X-Men went along side by side with original creative works and set the stage for things to come.
Raised with love and encouragement by my mom, my artistic skills grew, and soon, I soon started winning awards for my artwork; while in high school, I was enrolled in a prestigious program where I took accelerated academics one week, and intensive art and design courses the next. I spent three years learning my craft, and after high school, I won the Congress Bundestag / Open Door Exchange scholarship; this award allowed me to travel abroad to Germany for a year, and learn German art and culture. While living in Germany, I had the opportunity to work for a couple of German advertising agencies (Heye + Partner and ABW Werbagentur), where I did paste-up advertisments for such varied companies as McDonald’s, BMW and Campari Soda.
Returning home from Germany, I worked in a variety of design firms, multimedia houses and advertising agencies, not only on the East and West Coasts, but for clients as far away as England and Germany as well. After that, I then specialized in designing cutting edge websites for the leading acts in electronic dance music, which allowed me to parlay my artwork onto chart topping album covers, print and web based advertisements as well as many other design related projects that I was called upon to do.
I can pencil, ink, letter, color and I also do e-commerce web design, so end-to-end I can be the go to guy your organization needs to make their mark in the comic book industry.
Have a great day and I look forward to hearing from you! 🙂
all the best,
